Ruth Cecile Keller, 66, of Lexington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 23, 2021. Ruth was born on April 10, 1955 in Mauston, WI to the late Stanley Wayne Bartilson and Cecile (DeSoto) Bartilson.
Ruth was the second born of four children. As a child she was creative and artistic. She had a competitive side with an affinity for playing games, softball and jacks in particular. Always certain to beat her siblings! Ruth graduated from Harlem High in 1973. She was a lifelong learner and graduated with honors from University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a degree in English Literature. Her creative talents and writing skills lead to her becoming a published writer. Her stories were featured in several literary platforms including magazines and respected journals. Ruth also worked in politics, specializing in writing grant proposals for nonprofits that provide assistance to women seeking to further their education.
First and foremost, Ruth was a mother. Her daughters, Alicia and Kelsey, were the great joys of her life.
In her later years, Ruth used her creative skills to make artwork and crafts that she shared freely with anyone in need of color, light, or just a kind gesture. She frequently spent her days at Lexington Rescue Mission where she had many friends who shared her Christian values. She was a loving and endlessly accepting person who could always find the good in anyone.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Alicia Manfredi of Richmond, KY and Kelsey Southworth of Richmond, KY. Her sister and best friend, Elizabeth Williams, brothers Stan Bartilson and William Bartilson. Her grandchildren: Clarissa, Annabelle, Mason, Charlotte, and Wendell.
A chapel service will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Machpelah Cemetery Chapel in Mount Sterling. Friends are welcome to attend.
