James Baxter Obituary

James Malcom Baxter, 75, of Mt. Sterling passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 2, 2023 with his family by his side. James was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on July 4, 1948 to the late Malcom and Marjorie Proffitt Baxter.

James treasured his family and friends and lived his life to the fullest. He never missed anything. He was a character who enjoyed his skills in harassing, antagonizing and annoying family and friends. He enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories with a dynamic delivery who could bring stories to life. He loved hanging out with his friends and family in his garage while working on cars and motorcycles.  He enjoyed hitting the roads on his custom built 1954 Harley panhead motorcycle and found peace and solitude on those journeys. After his baptism, he experienced the greatest peace he'd ever known, one he says he'd unknowingly craved his entire life.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Sherrie Colliver, and son-in-law, Mike Colliver of Mt. Sterling, his loving daughter Tracy Gregory of Mt. Sterling, his brother Woody Baxter and sister-in-law Nancy Baxter of Mt. Sterling, his brother Bobby Baxter of Silver Springs, Florida, his sister Lynn Greene and brother-in-law G.C. Greene of Jeffersonville, his sister Sissy Trimble and brother-in-law Bob Trimble of Jeffersonville, his grandson Nick Thorne (Morgan Miles) of Mt. Sterling, granddaughters, Hannah Stokes (Michael) of Nicholasville, Lora Goodan (Jessie) of Paris, Olivia Harris (Evander) of Lexington, Shelby Thorne of Lexington, and Leah Thorne of Mt. Sterling, as well as his great-grandsons Spencer Thorne, Chance Goodan, Lincoln Thorne and Oliver Harris. He will be fondly remembered by his nephew Scottie Centers (Margina) of Means, who brought much joy into James' life.
